Everyone strives for success. From the big achievements, like being a millionaire or making something of themselves, to the small achievements, like getting out of bed in the morning or working out. Regardless of the size of the achievement, everyone strives for something and they should have that opportunity to do so. However, the chances to get these opportunities aren’t equal for everyone. There are many factors that contribute to the issue of many individuals not getting an equal opportunity for life. This isn’t set in stone though. Many people are solely convinced that this unequal opportunity is just caused by an “oppressive privileged class” but that is only said because it’s harder “to talk about inequalities of family structure, child rearing patterns and educational attainment.” (Source F) An issue in family structure can lead to a lasting generations chain of circumstances that traps child after child in a lower income situation where it’s hard to get out. The same cycle mentioned before is heavily put into place here. If people are forced to stay in a lower class and have to stay in areas that aren’t as safe and don’t have the best of schools, it becomes very difficult for them to be able to escape into a different income class. From this, it’s where children are said to follow their parents’ educational trajectory (Source I). This meaning, that if a child had parents that went to college, it’ll be likely that the child will go to college too. However, if a child didn’t have any parents that went to college, they have more trouble getting into college and are therefore stuck in the lower income class until they can find a way of escaping.
