The contemporary world has witnessed the onset of the rapid development of the internet and the creation of a global economy that has led to the creation of a globally connected world. Foreign languages must be taught in college as they provide an edge to individuals in the job market that has become the foundation for a global economy characterized by a variety of cultures and languages. The current system of college present in America and throughout the world is constantly pushing out students with an advanced education but lacking in the area of skills that employers seek to obtain through their employees. Due to the lack of these skills which range from networking to negotiating, the ability to comprehend and speak more than one language provides an edge for new workers in the highly competitive job market which has shifted towards a global marketplace. That by knowing a foreign language individuals can “effectively communicate with international clients” (Source C), which is a favorable skill in the eyes of international companies. Through the mandatory education of foreign languages in college, students entering the job market will be able to compete for lucrative positions which may not have been available to them had they not learned another language. Especially after college, it becomes apparent how a wide array of skills necessary in life may not have been adequately developed throughout the countless hours of education that students undergo. However, these skills have the potential to arise through foreign language classes as learning another language leads to the growth of “gray matter” (Source E), which enables the brain to work more effectively. This translates into a more efficient individual who is able to attack problems logically and solve them with ease. Furthermore, the greater “vocabulary acquisition” (Source E) that grows from foreign language classes, widens the expanse of people’s language abilities and makes them more effective communicators. Especially in the modern world, the ability to communicate effectively is an indispensable life skill which plays a role in almost all parts of a person’s success. Moreover, skills associated with powerful, successful figures ranging from “distraction resistance” to “ decision making” are acquired through learning a foreign language (Source E). Furthermore, these are life skills directly connected with one’s success in life as gaining these types of life skills will enable individuals to build themselves into influential personas.
