Synthesis Essay On Pop Music

There are many ways the media tells us what normal or expected of females and males, one of which is through POP music. I have been guilty of listening too and enjoying the four songs I have picked. Since pop music is so upbeat and well “popular” I listen to it quite often it was not until asked to write this essay that I have ever really thought about the lyrics and message in these songs. They mostly talk about men being obsessed with the female body and sex. Most popular music portrays that men only want women for sex and don’t look at them as partner in life or someone to have a relationship with, rather something for their personal enjoyment and not a human being with needs and wants. It also frequently portrays that women have accepted this and want to please their man and take pride in being an object for sex. It’s horrible, but none the less what our society knows to be normal and good music. My first song is Good For You by Selena Gomez. This song tells of her only goal in life is too look good for him. All she is worth is to be sexy in that skin tight dress he likes. This song tells women that being sexy is what we should strive for to make ourselves and men happy. Have an opinion? Have big dreams? The song talks about women taking care of their man on all sorts of levels. The song states that “Yes I do the cooking, yes I do the cleaning, yes I keep the nana real sweet for your eating, yes you be the boss yes I be respecting Whatever that you tell me 'cause it 's game you be spitting”. This song is stating that women should take care of their man and keep him happy. This song states that females should cook, clean, and offer sex whenever men want it. Yet another example of a song degrading women. This song and many others make humans to sound like all they care about is pleasing one another
