Synthesis Essay On Nuclear Energy

We live in times of fear and uncertainty; where it’s possible you won’t have enough money to pay for the months consuming electric, heat, and water bills. But that’s why nuclear energy has been available in the United States since the 1960’s… because it was needed. And here’s three reasons why: First is the realisation of the increase of the electricity demand worldwide, but especially in rapidly-developing countries. Secondly, is awareness of the priority of energy security, and thirdly is the need to limit carbon emissions due to concerns about global warming. Over 11% of the world's electricity is produced from nuclear energy, more than from all sources worldwide during 1960. “Some 439 nuclear reactors are supplying power for 31 countries around the world.”(Source 1) Electricity is vital to modern life. It powers our lights and appliances at home. It powers many industrial processes. It is used to power trains and to charge electric vehicles. Nuclear power plants use the heat produced by nuclear fission to generate steam that drives turbines, like in fossil fuel plants.”(Source 3) However, no greenhouse gases are produced in this fission process, and only small amounts are produced across the whole fuel cycle. (In nuclear fission, energy is released when the nuclei of atoms are split apart.
