Synthesis Essay: Can You Be Successful?

Decent Essays
Success doesn’t come from being perfect, nor can you be perfect that is why we are successful. Lots of people think that being successful means being perfect, but that’s not true. Success comes from mistakes not from perfection. We discover things thanks to our mistakes. Lots of inventions were a mistake, and mistakes are how we learn. Samuel Smiles once said, “We learn wisdom from failure much more than from success…” This is so true!
There are a lot of things that you love but wouldn’t have it weren’t for mistakes, like chocolate chip cookies, the slinky, potato chips, silly putty, the microwave, fireworks, cornflakes, post-it-notes, X-rays, and so many more. The way that the microwave was invented according to How a Melted Bar of Chocolate

Well, learning is improving and if you didn’t make mistakes you wouldn’t improve. While making a lot of mistakes gets you nowhere, sometimes it is necessary to mess up every once in awhile. If we didn’t mess up then we wouldn’t be human. In Lost Cities Lost Treasures, an archaeologist named Heinrich Schliemann discovered Ancient Troy, which was a big mistake. A man named Calvert agreed to split the land with Schliemann but was mistaken. Schliemann turned on him and took all the credit for the discovery. I am sure that Calvert learned his lesson when it came to trusting Heinrich.
Some people may say that all of this is boggess and that there is no way that discoveries come from mistakes. I agree; some discoveries were on purpose and flawless, but not always. Let's take fireworks, can you imagine the fourth of July without them that would be terrible! A cook accidentally mixed together charcoal, sulfur, and saltpeter. When the mixture was compressed into a bamboo tube it exploded. Without this curious cook, we wouldn’t have beautiful vibrant skies lit up by fireworks every year. According to, In Praise of Careful Science, “It is too easy to say, “Without mistakes, no discoveries can be made.”’ Not all discoveries come from mistakes.
Most discoveries come from mistakes, some may disagree, but we learn when we mess up. If we did not mess up then we would not learn. Success doesn’t come from being perfect, nor can you be perfect that is why we are

There are people who mainly learns from experience as they go through life on their own, watching and learning, while there are others who try to base their life after a person, a role model, who may or may have never even existed in this world. Utility of error ties into both the terms Optimistic and Pessimistic. Optimistic tells us “ the experience of being wrong isn’t limited to humiliation and defeat”. Pessimistic meaning “tells us that wrongness is unpleasant, but it doesn't tells us why, and is has nothing at all to say about errors that don't turn it to be disagreed” ( 394 Kathryn Schulz). The model of wrongness with both Optimistic and Pessimistic errors tells us that “ model is harder to recognize around us, since it is forever being crowded out by the noisier notion that error is dangerous, demoralizing, and shameful” ( Kathryn Schulz 394).…
