The Butler (Strong & Haygood , 2013) takes us to a farm in the south, around 1920 where our lead role Cecil Gaines is being raised, as a domestic servant and eventually ends up in to White House. When Cecil leaves the farm he states, “I don’t think God meant for people to not have a family” (Strong & Haygood , 2013). Cecil struggles to fin work, realizing he had it good at the cotton farm, he presses onward. He eventually finds work, at a hotel and gets married to one of the house keeping staff, Gloria Gains, together the raise two boys Louis and Charlie both opposite from the other, one chooses to fight America, the other fights for America. Cecil lands the Cecil losses touch with his oldest son Lewis, and the movie shows us the growth of America, civil rights issues, and changes in leadership that caused changes in American life. We see first hand how a good family is driven to face their fears, along with facing each other with those fears

Louis makes a statement and calls his father Mr. Butler, immediately Gloria lashes back with “Everything you are and everything you have is because of that butler. Now you take that triflin’ little low class bitch and get out of this house” (Strong & Haygood , 2013). At this moment we see the devotion that Gloria has for her husband, and the years of support she has always given him. At this point we see a change in the love relationship between Gloria and Cecil.
