Thought-provoking and difficult to watch at times, GOD FORGIVES WE DON’T shows you the hardships people have to go through when they are drafted to fight in a war.
Wars are inevitable despite what we think. When nations want to declare war on one another, all we can do is sit back and hope for the best as a number of us watch our loved ones go defend the country. But there comes a time, when there aren’t enough soldiers and civilians are asked to fight as well. When these civilians are drafted, they are placed in a setting they know nothing about and have to quickly learn what it means to be a soldier. This is precisely what happened to the young men in this film.
Beginning with audio which reveals the state of the world the main characters are living in, this film jumps right into a war scene. Hectic and tense, the opening scene shows a group of soldiers preparing for an attack. We don’t know where they are and why they’re there. But, their experiences show how brutal and traumatizing war can be. We’ve heard stories about the types of situations soldiers have gone through while fighting and this film perfectly depicts those. From soldiers losing limbs to their basecamps being bombed, there wasn’t anything this film neglected to show. We saw how soldiers become family and the intensive training they have to go through before being deployed. This film brilliantly captured the essence of war and what it means to be a soldier. It also showed how war affects people’s psychological state. With such a powerful subject matter, this film strongly relied on its characters to help us understand what really happens when nations are at war and the toll it takes on
