Siemens Von Grossen Play Analysis

I was pleasantly surprised at how enjoyable and funny the play actually was. The cast was very animated and absolutely adorable! The stage was small and the audience was close around the stage which added to the enjoyment of the performance. The props and costumes seemed to be from the 1940’s and well placed around the stage. The hidden doors that actually swung open and closed were fabulous and was used perfectly with the story. Elsa Von Grossenknueten played by Carolin Hansa did a great job at leading your imagination to believe there were actually hidden tunnels behind them. Leaving your mind to wonder what lurks in the mazes that lay beyond which added to the excitement and mystery of the play. The story begins with a blizzard brewing outside and guests arriving for auditions for a musical. Unknown to the guests it is actually a murder investigation only known to Elsa (Carolin Hansa) and Sgt. Michael Kelly played by Frank Riley. The investigation concerns the prior murder at the last audition, hoping to lure the killer in with a notebook found that had belonged to the deceased. Unfortunately, before the first guest arrives the maid Helsa Wenzel played by Ashley Wallick was murdered and humorously stored in the closet and replaced with a …show more content…
The breaks in the music for news reports on the blizzard outside adding to the feeling of being snowed in. As mentioned before, I absolutely enjoyed the hidden passageways and the convincing way in which the levers operated them on the stage. The set was beautiful, I loved the old chairs and the beautiful piano, every mansion needs one! The door leading to the outside was well done and it did look like it were cold on the other side. The lighting during the play was well done with instances of power outages, lanterns and blackouts. I would definitely recommend this play to anyone with a funny bone, I would attend another performance
