In the film, A Beautiful Mind, John Nash was diagnosed with schizophrenia. Schizophrenia is a mental disease that affects the mind, it prevents the person from knowing what's real to what is simply a fragment of the person's imagination. For those who suffer from schizophrenia, it's an ongoing battle that has no cure. Not only does it not have a cure , it takes a weigh on the person's life , and also affects those who are around for the journey. When we were first introduced to Nash he was majoring in Mathematics at Princeton University, which is highly recognized world-wide. During this time, Nash was under a number of great deal of stress, it is lead to believe that schizophrenia symptoms are triggered or worsened when the person environment is affected by stress, it acts as a component to the disease. Research shows that environment, genetics, and the person's brain cells all contribute to the evaluation of schizophrenia. Delusions, hallucinations, disorganized speech, and disorganized behavior are all symptoms present in a person who suffers from …show more content…
John wasn't the same person he was at the beginning of the movie. He couldn't respond to his wife's needs ,he couldn't be left alone with his own child, he also wasn't able to work. It changed who was completely and drained him of the happiness he once felt. Those around him did not feel safe when Nash was around, his wife , Alicia stuck by him through everything even when he was harmful to her , the baby and even himself. People with schizophrenia all need around the clock care, the symptoms are very severe and can even be life threatening. Suicidal thoughts and behavior can all occur in a person with this mental illness. They tend to hear voices telling them to do things that most of the times end with negative results.
