Raynaud disease is a disease that affects the extremities of the body including nose, ears, fingers, and toes. It is a vascular disorder that is affected by stress and cold. The body reacts to the cold and the extremities become white or blue due to the decreased or complete absence of blood flow. When the blood flow returns the fingers often become red. This can cause throbbing and swelling and can be very painful (Wolters Kluwer Health, 2016). There are two classifications of this, primary and secondary. Secondary is typically a symptom of other diseases such as lupus, scleroderma, rheumatoid arthritis or atherosclerosis.
