If symptoms for this illness are present the doctor usually will proceed with a physical exam and a full workup of your medical history. They may also decide to use blood tests and brain imaging to dismiss physical illness as a cause for the symptoms occurring. If there is no sign of physical illness the doctor will generally send the person to a psychologist, who is trained to diagnose people with these types of disorders (schizophrenia and Brief…, 2016).
Due to the fact that brief reactive psychosis only lasts less than a month treatment is more focused for this disorder. In the worst case scenario, a person may potentially be hospitalized for a short duration to be evaluated and to ensure the safety of their health. If psychotic symptoms are minimal, but disabling antipsychotic medications like haloperidol, thioridazine, and chlorpromazine may be administered. However, these medications should not be given for more than a month’s time (Mohammed, 2016).
Overall, we can conclude that brief psychotic disorder along with other mental illnesses can be challenging and difficult to deal with. These disorders not only affect the person experiencing it, but also everyone around them. It is also important to realize that most people with a mental illness can do nothing to prevent it from happening. Ultimately, any type mental illness is just as important as the rest and should always be taken
