Symphonie Fantastique Concert Report

Improved Essays
At this concert, the best music that I like is the Symphonie fantastique by Hector Berlioz which is the Op. 14, Reveries, Passions: Largo; Allegro agitato e appassionato assai (lively, agitated, and impassioned) which is movement no. 1. And also on this concert they played movement no. 2, A Ball:Valse, Allegro non troppo. It is Program symphony with five movements. Each movement has a story of it, such as Beethoven with his symphonies and movements. This music tells a story of an artist’s obsession with a woman he adores and whose wild imagination and opium-induced hallucinations takes us through his dreams and passions. It was relaxing during playing this symphony and it’s one of my favorite symphony; I picked this concert because of this piece. The Symphonie …show more content…
The 1st movement is kind of Sonata-Allegro form. The opining melody of the first movement was soft and slow with a touch of melancholy and I love this type. It starts with a softly-lovely flute and then the violins with strings accompanying. The violins are way up in the high part of their pitch which making it more refreshing. The tempo is not fast at the beginning, but then it become faster a little bit with violins. The dynamic keep changing and it causes the tune to be very sweet because of the dynamic and the combination of instruments. The form of this music during the romantic Era was not very common, and the main idea of this piece is that Berlioz’s use of an “idee fixe.” Its changed and developed easily, even with the movement and the notes. It did create different moods and tune; it makes the form seem different. At the middle of the music, it stars really in being loud and scary; it comes out like there is a witches and some scary

This piece begins with a tranquil woodwind choir with other instruments gradually joining in. The tempo is andante, as it is moderately slow, yet more of a simple pace. This work takes advantage of dynamics heavily, as it varies from pianissimo with a solo flute to a gorgeous and strong fortissimo dynamic of the whole ensemble. This piece also varies in texture quite a bit, as it alternates between monophonic soloist sections and grand homophonic sections of the whole band. Most of the melodic lines are smooth and legato, yet are disrupted by the pointed and staccato figures of the percussion section that underscore the longer lines of the wind instruments.…

With this concert, I was not too sure what expect seeing a vocalist, piano player and a clarinetist, but this has turned out to be my favorite concert thus far. I enjoyed how different it was from the other concerts with the music they played was more enjoyable, modern and upbeat. A positive aspect I took from this performance, was inviting and friendly the performers were. It is not everyday where they invite you to sit on stage while they do their performance because they want you to feel like you are a part of it. I really did find much negativity to this performance, besides the fact it was most sung in a different language and hard to follow, but helped me learn more of different types of music.…

This piece has “characteristics of classic sonata form, and is similar in energy and length to such concert overtures as Shostakovich’s Festival Overture.” As with a typical sonata form, the piece is broken down into five main sections. The first introductory section features the opening horn fanfare and a full ensemble crescendo into the exposition. Starting at measure four, the first theme is articulated with tutti figures thru many different instruments. Immediately following that in measure twelve, we hear the inversion of that melody in the clarinets and alto saxophone. The inversion is then repeated in the upper woodwinds and in the cornet.…

Concert Report Two The concert performance given live that I have attended on Thursday April 20th, 2017 was an organ licentiate recital by Ian Guenette. It was held at the Redpath Hall, a building located on McTavish street. The Redpath Hall was first dedicated for a library building, but is now taken charge by the Schulich School of Music. The Hall is very charming with its high selling that contains thick dark brown carved wodden beams that covers the intire ceiling and gives warmth to the room.…

The orchestra consisted of instruments such as violins, violas, cellos, and flutes, that helped create an allegro moderato orchestral introduction. This being Mozart’s first Violin Concerto, it is very important that he begins his work in this way, showing progression in his creative career. It demonstrates the transaction between some of his first piano concertos, to his new development of mastering the art of the violin. This charming and energetic introduction then leads to the adagio movement; a slower flow. Hsuan-…

The instruments are all moving quickly and playing different and conflicting parts all over one another, which creates an interesting and energetic sound. I liked having this energetic and lively section towards the end of the piece. It created anticipation and excitement while listening, while also revisiting some of the initial musical sections from the first movement. I thought that the revisiting of initial musical pieces tied the whole thing together, by showing the connection through the first and last movements. I thought it was interesting that this movement ended with a downbeat, as it initially started with an…
