Sympathy For Lennie In Of Mice And Men By John Steinbeck

Sympathy was something I felt for Lennie in his last days. Someone he trusted and someone he thought would protect him was the one that ended his life. In the fifth chapter of the book Lennie kills Curley’s wife. It was a totally accident, Lennie covered her body and fled the scene. When she was found everyone knew who killed her. Thereafter, Curley goes to find Lennie and plans to kill him. George goes along with him and some other works to find Lennie, and make sure that Curley doesn’t hurt Lennie. “And George raised the gun and steadied it, and he brought the muzzle of it close to the back of Lennie’s head. The hand shook violently, but his face set and his face set and his hand steadied. He pulled the trigger.” (Of Mice & Men Steinbeck Chapter 6 p.108). I was filled with anger, I just couldn’t understand how someone could treat another person like that. Curley should understand that Lennie is not as mentally Lennie had done nothing to Curley and yet he kept tormenting him. As we have learned in the beginning of the book Curley is threatened by guys that are bigger then him. In chapter three Curley begins to assault Lennie, brutally beating him in the stomach and face.
