Sympathetic Dystrophy In The Crucible

Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy is a disorder that can cause one to end up in a wheelchair. I was diagnosed early enough, but my leg was purple, cold, swollen, and I had excruciating pain, to the point where clothing rubbing my leg hurt and brought tears to my eyes. I endured an extreme test when the doctor took the crutches away; the doctor told me I had to use my leg and walk on it. Just like me, the characters in “The Crucible” went through several trials or tests. Arthur Miller’s play “The Crucible” takes place in the Massachusetts Bay area in 1692; the play is a story about the Salem witch trials. During the play, people are put to death for having contact with the devil; people have enjoyed watching their friends be put to death, but by the end of the play nobody is excited to see John Proctor, Goody Nurse, and Martha Corey put to death. A crucible can be defined in two different ways, a severe test or trial, or a vessel that can withstand intense heat and is used for melting substances. A character that shows the significance of the symbol “crucible” is John Proctor, who endured severe tests or trials throughout the entire play. Also, another character that shows the symbolic significance of the title is Reverend Parris, who symbolizes the other meaning of the word “crucible”.
