Esperanza talks about the four skimpy and skinny trees outside her house. She defines them as strong, with mighty roots down below. This is a symbol, for her to know, that says she shouldn't give up on what she wants. Just as the trees have done, stating her wants, she described these trees as something she represent a. Yes there was a monkey in this garden and the garden was left behind to grow wildly. People never thought much of the garden and seemed to throw in all the junk they have. And that is why this is a symbol. It shows you that sometimes, something junky, can be beautiful. Esperanza thinks of herself to be ugly. The monkey garden is thought to be ugly. Esperanza will purposely trash on herself for being 'ugly' or for not being tall and beautiful like all the other girls. The garden's trees are tall and magnificent. Esperanza and the garden are very much alike. They tell their purposes and how they believe they are. When in the garden, Esperanza imagines herself as one of the boys. She'll have no worries on what she looks like and no worries of what they
