David’s Treasures

For my final segment assignment, I made a 3D Model Memorial. There are many items and meanings that are inside the jar I made. There are rocks, photographs, a ring, a necklace, bits of bread, (fake) jewels, several doll shoes, one die, a quote taped around the perimeter, and a Star of David drawn on the lid. Each of these materials were put in this jar for a reason. The rocks represent that the Jews put them on Schindler’s grave. The photographs in the jar are in black and white, and are of my two friends (one being Elizabeth) and I. They represent how so many memories were lost during the Holocaust and how they were just thrown into huge piles of other dead remembrances. The necklace, ring, jewels, and pieces of bread

The ring in particular represents the ring that was given to Schindler in the movie, Schindler’s List. The several pairs of tiny doll shoes represent how the many Jewish men were lined up against the edge of a wall where when they were shot, they would fall into the water. It also represents all of the Jews’ belongings and how they were shown in Schindler’s List being thrown into huge piles, just to be thrown away unless valuable. The die in the jar represents how some Jews were lucky and how some Jews unfortunately weren’t. I chose a die in particular because I used a board game as an analogy to the Holocaust: Some Jewish people were able to roll the die and get to the end of the board game, but some people rolled the die and lost within the first few rounds. The quote taped around the perimeter of the jar represents how that same quote was engraved in the ring that was given to Schindler in the movie that we watched. I think that it is a very good explanation of how many tried their best, and even though none of them could save every single person in the Holocaust, it made a difference for that one person. The Star of David that I drew on the lid of the Jar represents the title of

The author uses symbolism to convey the inhumane cruelty he witnessed and how it deprived the jews of who they were, and wants the readers to make sure history doesn’t repeat itself by finding ways to prevent the Holocaust from happening again. In the book Night by Elie Wiesel, he uses Fire to symbolize the Nazis cruel power. From pages 26-28 Elie talked about how Madame Schachter would scream because she envisioned fire and would awake everyone in the cattle car but when the people looked there was nothing. Madame Schachter acted like if she was an animal looking for attention.…

A brick structure covers the majority of the picture with a gate in the middle of the structure. There appear to be train tracks leading to the front gate where there are people standing. I believe this cover was chosen to show how much of a prison the concentration camp was. The tracks leading to the gate could symbolize the trains bringing the prisoners into the camp.…

“A dark flame had entered into my soul and devoured it. ”(Wiesel 34). This is how the Jews experienced the Holocaust, they suffered so much just because of who they were. They were innocent people but they were punished and imprisoned to die. The birdcage, made with barbed wires, in my art project shows how the Jews were imprisoned and how their freedom was stripped away from them.…

The objects that I were assigned were the Bandolier bag from the Native American Delaware Tribe, and the Painted elk hide from the Easter Shoshone tribe. Bandolier bags were extremely popular among most Native American tribes, and each tribe expressed their culture through them in a different way. This particular Bandolier bag comes from the Delaware, or Lenape, Tribe. It is estimated that it was created around 1850 C.E., and is crafted with beads on leather hide. This object has two components to it, one being the shoulder drape and the other being the small bag.…

Before the story has begun, the African American is already accused of raping a white, nineteen year old Mayella Ewell. Many townspeople of Maycomb believe that Robinson is not responsible for his crime because he is a hard-working and well-respected man. On the other hand, they disrespect and distrust the prosecutor, Mayella Ewell, because she belongs to a poor, disgraceful “white trash” family who lives by the town’s dump. The second evidence that proves Tom Robinson’s innocence is found in Mr. Ewell’s testimony on the rape. Mr. Ewell, Mayella’s father and one of the witnesses of the incident, tells Atticus, the lawyer of Tom Robinson, that he does not call a doctor for Mayella on that day.…

The picturebook My Hiroshima by Junko Morimoto, has a very significant symbol on the casing. One the center of the casing there is a huge atomic bomb and on the side of the picture there is a man and a child walking. At first if a child would see this casing, they probably mostly pay attention to bomb because it is the focus point in the picture, but this image has a more significant symbol. It represents a major event that happened in history, of when an atomic bomb was dropped on the Japanese city of Hiroshima. This image also symbolizes something completely different to the author, because he wrote the story from his point of view of how he remembers witnessing the nuclear attack when he was a child, and how it affected him and made a big…

Symbolism is used throughout “The Book Thief” as a way to represent the situation of World War II in Nazi Germany. Mark Zusak uses books, an accordion, and bread as symbols to represent the conformity or defiance of each character in “The Book Thief.” Quote: "In fact, on April 20 – the Furher’s birthday – when she snatched that book from beneath the steaming heap of ashes, Liesel was a girl made out of darkness." (Page 84). When Liesel steals the book from the fire, books are turned into the symbol of thievery and defiance against the Nazi Party and Hitler.…

In the novel Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, he separates the story into three parts and uses the titles as a metaphor to help further the plot and show the development of his characters. He uses these three parts to tell a story within the story itself, a story of a man trying to win back his right to think on his own. The titles represent his struggles and his triumphs, which ultimately in the end all tie together to create the overall theme of the novel. Bradbury divides this story into three parts because he wants to show the development of Montag as a character, his struggle with society’s flaws, and the future of humanity if we continue to reject change.…

World War II proves to be one of the most appalling events in history. Kurt Vonnegut unintentionally takes advantage of the war’s atrocities in his novel, Slaughterhouse-Five. Billy Pilgrim, a former prisoner of war and survivor of the Dresden bombing, comes unstuck in time, meaning he can travel between moments in his life. His condition hints at instability as he also meets aliens, or the Tralfamadorians, who live on a utopian planet. He relays the events and stories of the people he encounters throughout his journey.…

Holocaust Paper The Holocaust museum located in Washington D.C. has an interesting history from the efforts that went into the creation and design of this museum. Part of what makes this museum so interesting is the architecture, artifacts and the way that the museum tries to evoke the audience’s emotions. A thing to remember when discussing the Holocaust exhibits is that the museum wanted the audience to understand that, “the museum in Washington D.C., is not a center of Holocaust remembrance, but an extension of the fabric of the center: the original sites. ” These subjects can give a sense of meaning to the audience and how they could perceive the Holocaust in their own way.…

The image chosen for this essay is “Him” by Maurizio Cattelan. There are two images that shows the sculpture’s back and front. On the other hand, the other image depicting the placement of the sculpture portrays the actual meaning behind the creation of the sculpture. Typically, an individual will initially approach that sculpture thinking it is a innocent boy kneeling down, possibly praying or asking for forgiveness. This is expressed by the boy’s posture and arching of the back.…

Symbolism in To Kill a Mocking Bird Whether it be in literature or even shown in pictures, people use things to represent something with a deeper meaning and that’s called symbolism. In the book “To Kill a Mockingbird” by author Harper Lee, various different themes or symbols are active throughout the book all directly or in some way being tied to the ultimate theme of the book, which is not being able to understand someone until you experience life from their point of view. The most apparent reoccurring theme though is equality because of the fact it’s symbolized through people, birds, and even inanimate objects that Scout and Jem encounter over the course of the book in the tree that turns out to play a bigger part of the story as the…
