Iconography- What do these buildings represent or symbolize?
The Tomb of Triclinium represents a final resting place for the elite members of the Etruscans society, as well as the many elaborate rituals that took place in the tomb.The tomb was meant to hold the remains of a person and hold offering or food for the deceased. It is built to represent an outdoor festival tent, that was often used for banquets. Since, the Etruscans viewed death as a time to celebrate a life well lived, they held a final meal, or banquet, in the tomb with their loved one. The king wanted the monument to act as a permanent resting place for his favorite wife, so she would always be remembered and revered. He used things like architectural symmetry and the Gardens to emulate the beliefs of the Mughal Dynasty, and give the burial site a sense of balance and harmony. The Gardens used Mughal-era ideals to change the perspective of the Taj Mahal’s location based on your viewpoint. The tomb not only held the remains of the deceased, it also was a place where family members could come and celebrate their loved ones life and accomplishments. This was done through elaborated banquets, offerings, and ceremonies, that acted as reinforcement of the transitions between the world of the living and the land of the dead. In addition it acted as a reminder of the person's social status when they were alive, which helped to boost the living family members
