Solitude is a main concept in Death Constant Beyond Love. Senator Onesimo, even though happily married to a German woman with five children, fell in love at first sight with Laura, knowing he had only a few months to live. During the time when Laura came to his house, he was unable to have an affair with her. The time they shared that night made Onesimo feel not so alone in the world. Onesimo fell into a depression after that night until death finally stole his life away. I believe that in his last few weeks of life, Onesimo felt secluded for he could not be with the one he loved. Sanchez also mentions a few more items in the story that symbolized solitude. The one rose in the vase, I believe, symbolized the loneliness of love in the story.
