Symbolism Of Innocence

Harper Lee uses an extensive amount of symbolism in her novel To Kill a Mockingbird. The story is set in the quaint, little town of Maycomb, Alabama in the nineteen thirties’. Lee uses many of the characters in her novel to symbolize the stigmatizes of that time. She uses a mockingbird to symbolize the destructions of innocence. The mockingbirds of the book can by represented by Boo Radley and Tom Robinson. Boo was corrupted by the prejudice of the townsfolk of Maycomb County, and Tom Robinson was slain by the racism and injustice of the same people.
