The Human Body is a complex system with many sub systems intertwining to create a whole. When looking at the nursing profession, this same concept is applied. No patient will be exactly like another, an individual is “a bio-psycho-social-spiritual being in a constant interaction with their environment” (Potter and Perry, 2006, p.62). Nurses must be able to break down an individual into their sub systems to get an accurate understanding of who they are as a person. The mouth symbolizes communication and how a nurse must acknowledge all behavior has a meaning. The heart embodies empathy to promote the compassion towards the client’s position and mental state. The unitized hands show collaboration between the healthcare team and clients by operating together to create the greatest outcome for the specific client. The shield represents accountability by being responsible for your actions and your client’s safety. Lastly the legs indicate advocacy by standing up for your client’s essential necessities. The combination of these six traits work together in unity to fabricate our values of the nursing profession. Practicing purposeful physical and mental exertion in surveying, arranging, and assessing tolerant care. For the sole purpose of the client, the health care team must be in conjunction with one another to produce unity, knowing all shared information in order to work as one to achieve the common goal.
