Time was valuable aspect to show symbolism throughout the film. It helped create a sense of evolution through the story line of the characters. From the point the main characters are introduced to the old town we are shown that it is a rural environment that relies on farming. The natural background is green which can be connected to the time of the year. The beginning of spring brings a lot of vegetation, and symbolizes rebirth and the renewal of the past to create a new beginning. The war can be best described as winter. The conclusion of the war opens the door for a new beginning. Antonia’s return with her daughter Daniella can be seen as a rebirth of Antonia, and Danielle being the new creation.
