Symbolism In The Veldt By Ray Bradbury

“The Veldt” by Ray Bradbury is about a family that bought a mechanic house that does their daily dues for them. Leaving the family with nothing to do and nothing to learn about, this effects the children but not letting them learn life lessons or how to take care of themselfs. Among the mechanic house is a nursery that takes the children's imagination and puts it into a landscape setting according to their thoughts. The biggest conflicts are between the parents and the children and the children against themselves because they subconsciously turn the nursery into their “parents” A patterned craft move often used by bradbury is dialogue. “The house was full of dead bodies it seemed” It somehow foreshadows the future of the parents death. This is needed in the story to help support the story’s meaning and moral of trust and truth. Symbolism also helps run on sentences and gives characterization.
An exceptional craft move is stirring up empathy in the reader. Bradbury outs this in to make the reader concerned for the kids because they turn the machines and the nursery into their parents, they fall in love with not doing anything and being spoiled to no end by their parents. He also uses it to make the reader jealous of the kids and their life, everyone wants to not have to do the dishes, Not make their bed and it makes the reader envy them until the parents death. He also uses it to stir up empty for the parents, on how their kids that they raised from babies betrayed them by committing murder and not being phased by it.
In conclusion many craft moves are shown in the text by Ray Bradbury’s “the veldt” such as description,dialogue, metaphors and similes and exceptional craft moves like stirring up empathy. These are dire to show in
