Bex shows her resiliency throughout the book through her actions and emotions,for example , “I could Survive by myself if i had to . Hook up with a good mutual assistance group. Or form my own MAG. But that’s only if I would go and not look back”.(pg 2 E.m Kokie) At age 14 this girl is ready to support her family ,but without confirmation she feels she only has herself to rely on and that’s not healthy to be thinking as an adolescent. Bex presents many examples but one in particular when Bex was training and found an unforeseen obstacle takes the cake, “My boot catches on a root , and I almost go down, grabbing the tree to save myself from a header into the trunk. My face scrapes down the bark until I get some purchase and stop the slide. The weight of the pack shifts to the side , pinning me against the bark with the rifle in its sling between me and the tree. I focus on keeping me upright and turn just enough to brace my body against the tree until I can get my footing.” Bex shows that even when she is experiencing pain she’s always thinking and assessing her situations trying to analyze and find the best possible way to handle a given situation . And even he could barely stand the strain it took , the book explains this in saying “The sweat stood out in beads on his forehead. Weakened by his wound and the long summer day of fasting and watching on the roof, he revolted from the sight of the shattered mass of his dead enemy. His teeth chattered, he began to gibber to himself, cursing the war, cursing himself, cursing everybody.” ( O'Flaherty Pg 4) This show that with all the pain it took on his body he was able to be resilient enough to put his emotions past him , but he built up so much emotion that he broke down. Many soldiers struggle with PTSD , and he was strong enough to withstand that for long enough to take out his enemy and survive. Bex does show Resilience ,but the things the sniper went through doesn’t come close to anything Bex went
