Paul’s mother’s lack of attention, his rocking horse, and the whispering house come to show the lack of love and need to be greedy. The Rocking Horse represents his isolation from the world due to his lack of love. He lost his innocence of his childhood by trying to gain her love. He no longer has time to think about being a child, now he obsesses over how he can make his mother more money than she could ever imagine. This exhaustion leads to his death. The rocking horse symbolized the hope all the family needed, nut it then turned into the symbol for death.
