The famous poet, Edgar Allen Poe was born on January 12, 1809, three years later both of his parents died and was raised in a foster care. In 1835, Edgar Allen Poe married his cousin, which died in 1847. During his life the majority of the people he truly loved died, which resulted him to struggle with depression and alcoholism. Due to his life history, his writing were based on idealism and darkness related with death, loss of love and supernatural forces. One of his famous poems “The Raven”, has been known to describe a dark supernatural environment with symbolize. In the poem, he wrote about a raven that entered his house, and no matter what he did to try to push it out, it never went away. In this precise poem, Edgar Allen Poe used the Raven to symbolize the mourning of his loss in love in which he couldn’t push out of his life. One of his popular writing of this genre was “The tell-tale heart”. The short story “the tell-tale heart” is about a man that very careful calculated the death of someone, hiding it under the floorboards. Throughout the story, the protagonist actions resulted in guilt or mental disturbance as for, he would constantly hear the thumping of the dead’s person heart. Overall, the story is filled with many mysteries as it is filled with symbolism, even the tile is to wonder its true meaning. For example, Poe used symbolism when he wore “For it was no the old man who vexed me, but his evil eye”. Just this particular sentence Poe wanted the reader to do a comparison with a vulture. Just as a vulture can see very precise with their eye, Poe used this to describe a sort of piercing, to describe the emotions and fear when looked deep into his eye. The symbolism of the eye was like expressing the eyes being the widow of individuals soul and with the protagonist only darkness and insanity would be found.
