In the short story, “The Possibility of Evil,” by Shirley Jackson, uses several symbols to tell her story about Miss Strangeworth. One symbol would be Miss Strangeworth's roses. Although roses are beautiful flowers that stand for love and passion, they still have thorns. This is how the author tries to portray Miss Strangeworth, a little old lady who actually is really evil and dark inside.
