The short story “The Pedestrian by Ray Bradbury uses symbolism to convey the idea that the character Leonard Mead is the last “living” person in his reality. The narrator of this story describes Leonard's decision of which way to walk as “ it really made no difference; he was alone in this world of A.D. 2053, or as good as alone.” this tells the reader that while Leonard might share the world with other humans he experiences no meaningful interactions with them causing him to be “as good as alone.” Ray Bradbury also uses symbolisms of death when ever he describes any other person in the story, this is made explicitly clear in the line “Everything went on in tomblike house … where people sat like the dead, the grey or multicolored lights touching
