Symbolism In The Matrix

The symbols in “The Matrix” enhanced how the movie was to be perceived, often of the difference between reality and an illusion. The most striking part of the main characters within the Matrix is their sunglasses, which are worn by those in the Nebuchadnezzar and the “agents”. The cover of Dark Places shows a woman lying in the fetal position in a dark room, with a cross on her wrist. Readers can infer that the woman on the cover is the main character, Libby, as her physical appearance is described as being similar to that of the woman on the front of the novel. The dark room in which Libby lies is symbolic for the depressing thoughts in her head, as she has endured extreme obstacles, including the death of her family. In the novel, Libby calls her thoughts about the night her family was killed “dark places,” as she chooses to avoid thinking about it. However, the cross on her wrist shows that despite the terrible situation she has encountered, there is still hope that she can overcome her traumatization and live…

Here I think it is necessary to compare the two films from the prewar and postwar period, Shadow of a Doubt and The Man Who Knew Too Much where the mother figure symbolize both the household and the image of America. At the same time “These two Hitchcock films show clearly how the domestic ideology that is evoked to counter the fear of the maternal desire for independence ends up evoking the thing it fears” (Michie 30). For a brief moment, the maternal figures in both films refuse to be vehicles for idealized fantasies about family, and instead articulate their own desires, that could threaten the domestic ideals they are supposed to convey. The veiled desires of an American wife and mother are exposed early in the narrative when Hank accidently…

There is no Spoon The debate between idealism and materialism is an interesting aspect of philosophy and this debate has been visualised in many movies such as The Wachowski Brothers’ The Matrix (1999). The movie questions reality and an argument that can be identified from the movie is that the mind is the only thing that exists; the body and all things material, are illusions of the mind and therefore their existence can be questioned.…
