Symbolism In The Masque Of The Red Death

There are many forms of symbolism in the Masque of the Red Death. They help us to understand and also to get a better picture of what is going on in the story. Edgar Allen Poe used many different things to show how the story was being told and the suspense. The main colors of the story are violet, green, red/black, white, purple, orange, and blue. These colors of the rooms all have different meanings and symbols. The Masque of The Red Death has seven rooms. The purple room is pride, it then is the knowledge. Then there is a green room which is envy, it then turns into the growth of youth. The red/black room stands for anger, at the end of the story it eventually means death. The black room is very creepy because it is all black with red curtains. The white room is the age, it then later shows purity. The purple room represents greed which is the transition to royalty. The orange room is the one that represents gluttony, it also is for people that show strength and maturity. The first room which is the blue room represents lust, it also represents birth. It was so loud you could hear it throughout the entire house. The clock represented death. Every time it rang, someone died. While they thought they were all away from the plague, it was in the castle because of the masked figure. The clock was the passing of time. With each ticking time, it was the ticking away of life. It couldn’t be stopped and it was the inevitability of
