In the story Masque of the Red Death, Prince Prospero is faced with a phobia of death. So Prince Prospero tries to escape or cheat death only to find out you can’t. This reveals that death will find you at all costs. In the story Prince Prospero represents not all but some of the seven deadly sins. They are lust, Gluttony, greed, and wrath. Edgar Allan Poe is trying to explain, that the Prince is cheating death than the masked man comes he’s the first to go face him because he doesn’t want anyone reminding them of something that is depressing and causes people fear and anxiety.

For example, Prince Prospero showed lust in many cases throughout the story. In the text it states,” The tastes of the duke were peculiar. He had a fine eye for colors
