In this piece the color stands out to me the most. Compared to “The Kiss III, 1896” it is much more colorful, compared to just plain black and white. The colors he chose to use set a completely different mood. He primarily chose to incorporate blues, and greens. The blue and the green undertones he uses are calm and soothing yet, still draw much attention because of the way he uses different shades of each color. He also chose to paint the couples clothing a much darker, almost black color, which makes them stand out against the warm and cool tones he uses with the blues and greens. His choice of color stood out to me because it is not just simply black and white which lets out a much darker vibe. Although Much did not choose to concentrate on adding colors such as red which tend to proclaim love, passion and desire. His choice of colors are still colors bring out a romantic mood and peaceful mood. The colors he includes in the painting are still not vibrant and flashy yet he still finds a way to make the blue and green undertones stand out in a way that is eye-catching. I do believe in the message encoded in this work, I agree that being with someone can be a very beautiful thing yet it can also be the most dangerous thing to pour out all of your emotions and allow yourself to be in such a vulnerable state. However, the overall message is a positive and a beautiful one. My gut reaction was that this piece reminded me of me and my own relationship with my boyfriend. We don’t stand by windows and make out, but it somehow reminded me of us just because of the fact that you can tell they are in love by looking at them and I also like to think that people can tell that we are in love by just looking at us.
