It can reveal the tenacity and distrust amongst the characters. Near the end of the movie Julie and Julia, Julie preparing a meal for her idol and muse Julia. However the meal takes a bad turn when Julia refuses to dine with Julie because she does not share the same optimistic views others have for Julie’s cooking blog. Julie is distraught however does not cancel the meal and dines with her close friends and family instead. The fact that Julie continues to dine without Julia shows her newfound confidence. In the beginning of the movie she works in a cubicle and has self-esteem issues but by the end of the movie, she does not need someone’s approval or respect. She ultimately figures out that the only person she needs to get respect from is herself. Her evolution to an independent woman is shown in that “failed” meal. This chapter explains to the reader that meals should be looked into and should not just be regarded as a useless event because usually, it reveals to us information we would not know without
