Symbolism In The Book Thief

The first two pages show symbolism within ‘The Book Thief’, the last two pages display symbolism featured in ‘Educating Rita’ and the middle two represents something in common between both texts. Every drawing depicts a different theme within one of the texts. The book I created consists of three major part: For ‘The Book Thief’, there is an accordion to represent hope and a book underneath a coat to represent courage. In the text, Hans inherits an accordion after his friend sacrificed their own life for him. The accordion is also why the family felt the need to help Max when he shows up on the doorstep. Essentially, the accordion is a promise of life and hope. Liesel was so interested in books that she risked punishment to continue reading. To the extent that she stole a book from a large pile of burnt books. Her courage to continue her passion for reading and knowledge is the reason I included this symbol within my creative response. …show more content…
Rita used dresses as an example regarding the working class. To entertain themselves they would splurge on materialistic items such as dresses to distract themselves to the repetitiveness of their lives. Rita decided to not buy any dresses until she had a staple point within her educational journey “I haven’t had a new dress in twelve months. An’ I’m not gonna get one either, not till – till I pass me first exam” (Educating Rita, page 18).
