Symbolism In 'Shame'

Symbols
In everyday life we use symbols. Symbols can be an object, a person, or a place that represents something else. Our symbols are usually made up of our past experiences and so everyone's symbols mean something different to each person. In the writing "Shame" a girl named Helen Tucker is represented to Gregory as a symbol of everything he wants. Gregory considers Helen as a symbol because he does not have the same living styles as Helen. Everyone's symbol represents something different to them and my symbol would be my parents, because they represent support, hard work, and strength.
Support is not only listening to someone talk about their problems, but it's also about trying to understand the person and help them out and guide them

In most cases, it actually causes the individual to gain even more weight from insecurities. Also, an example in Scarlet Letter would be Dimmesdale. Shame is defined by the Oxford Dictionary as a "painful feeling of humiliation or distress caused by the consciousness of wrong or foolish behaviour" (Shame Definition).
