“The Sun is alone too but it still shines” by an anonymous author. This quote shows us that just because you are alone doesn't mean you can stop being yourself. In “All Summer In A Day”, by Ray Bradbury, the main character Margot discovers how hard it is to fit in. As Margot tries to fit in and explain the sun to her new classmates, she finds herself alone because none of the kids believe her stories about the sun. Some students then find out that she may be returning to Earth, away from the raining every day. All of the students were jealous of her. In the world today many people have the same struggle as Margot, not fitting in. Margot’s experiences with the rain, the closet, and the sun demonstrate how a group can accomplish more than when an an individual works alone. The first symbol used by Ray Bradbury was the rain, which symbolises Margot's depression. The author uses the rain to show effects of Margot's emotions during the story. The rain represents Margot’s depression through her experience on Venus. Margot stood out from the other kids because she had just moved there from earth, all the other kids have lived on Venus all their lives. When …show more content…
Throughout “All Summer In A Day”, Margot stands alone and all of the other children came together over jealousy of Margot. It was rumored that she may be going back to Earth so the other children who had to stay didn’t think that it was fair that she got to leave Venus and they didn’t. The children also assumed that she had been lying about the sun. It was easy for one student to convince all of the others that she was lying because she was knew and not many people knew who she was so it was easy to make people, that did not know her, turn against her. This goes to show that jealousy is a very powerful things and it can sometimes be an extremely dangerous

All Summer In a Day “She was different and they knew her difference and kept away”... this is what Ray Bradbury writes in his story, All summer in a day. Margot is a girl in this story who wants to be accepted and fit in with the people on venus but she isn't sure how. For example she doesn't defend herself and she doesn't even attempt to try and socialize with the other kids. One reason Margot doesn't fit in and isn't accepted is because *she doesn't defend herself.…

And the kids knew this. The children were very jealous of Margot because she used to be able to see the sun often while they only see it every seven years. Their jealousy led them to lock Margot in the closet while they all got to go outside and play in the sun. All of the children didn't have any control over what she sees and locking her in the closet wouldn't fix any problem.…

They walked over to the closet door slowly and stood by it. They unlocked the door, even more slowly, and let Margot out.” (4). This scene particularly supports the message of guilt and happiness all at the same time in the short story All Summer in a Day because it shows the guilt part of guilt and happiness. The children had just realized the terrible deed they had just done.…

In the midst of the excitement when the sun showed, they forgot about Margot in the closet and she never got to see it. This is an example of how the children, who were were so driven by jealousy, would not let Margot see the sun when she had been suffering for all those years just like they had. Although it does not say it in the book, but after they remember that Margot was in the closet, they seemed to feel bad about what they had…

It symbolizes renewal, hope, and new beginnings. Characters may experience symbolic "cleansing" by walking through rain. As a result, they may get rid of their bad qualities as the rain washes it off, and start afresh as a new, improved person. In The Catcher in the Rye, by J.D. Salinger, the cynical protagonist, Holden Caulfield, is completely fed up with the adult society. He has no friends and is lonely, which causes him to go into depression.…

Symbolism Within “The Veldt” Within literature, symbolism is used by assigning symbolic meanings to objects, settings, or actions to represent an idea or characteristic. In the short story “The Veldt,” Ray Bradbury uses various symbols within the text that allow the readers to identify what the author is trying to tell them. The symbols allow the readers to define the character of Wendy and Peter and the relationship they have with their parents and the house, a broader understanding of the setting and to understand the story’s theme. Wendy and Peter are the children of George and Lydia. The relationship they have isn’t as affectionate as it should be, since George installed machinery that would take care of them all, the children grew up learning that they would have everything handed to them and wouldn’t…

When Gatsby comes back, things are still uncomfortable - that is until it stops raining. As the rain fades, so does the discomfort. Soon, as if a beaming rainbow surrounded the couple, happiness and ease begins to fill the space between them. Fitzgerald uses the rain as a symbolism of rebirth and renewal. It is a beautiful cleansing process that happens in Gatsby and Daisy’s relationship.…

How does Margot survive for five years without seeing the sun and instead being drenched with rain on Venus. Margot has not seen the sun for about 5 years and it is about to come out for the first time in five years. What my thoughts on this are that Margot should be more grateful because other kids seen the sun seven years ago but have no memory of it because they were two years old. So Margot should stop acting so impatient because, She has seen the sun more than any of the other kids because she lived on earth for four years of her life. The other kids need more of a chance to see the sun more than she does because they can't even remember what the sun looks like, and finally Margot should just be grateful that she saw the sun for longer and she hasn't lived on venus her whole life.…

My favorite part of the book when Daisy and Jay are reunited again at Nick’s house you see weather play a huge role in this powerful scene. On the day Nick invites Daisy over as a favor for Jay it just so happens to be continuously raining. I think the rain was a symbol of the nervousness and the buildup to seeing Daisy again for Jay. The two are speechless when they first see each other as the drizzling…

In The Great Gatsby, F. Scott Fitzgerald’s fluctuation of the weather symbolically represents the changing of characters’ moods throughout chapter five. After the rain, the emerging sun represents Gatsby’s calm, collected, and overall positive change in attitude. When the rain is falling outside, Gatsby is a nervous wreck, “acting like a little boy,”(93) at the sight of Daisy. Knocking over furniture, fidgeting, and losing his composure makes Gatsby seem vulnerable in Daisy’s presence.…

Gatsby wanted to make sure the day was perfect, even down to the cut of the grass. With high expectations, Gatsby was let down as the weather disagreed with their rendezvous. “The day agreed upon was pouring rain,” displayed the irony of Gatsby and Daisy’s reconciliation. However, in classic literature, rain is used to symbolize a serious affair; a situation in which is full of cleansing, renewal, and forgiveness. For the past five years, Gatsby’s love laid at rest in his heart, as he could not do anything to win Daisy’s attention.…

Everyone has an aspiration to fit in, but it is not worth giving up one's individuality. In Ray Bradbury’s story, “All Summer in a Day”, he tells of children that end up giving up their individual morals, and then regret it. Similarly, in the writings of “Ponies” and “Harrison Bergeron”, the writers KIJ Johnson and Kurt Vonnegut Jr. speak of characters who want to fit in, but end up giving up their uniqueness to do so. They end up feeling remorse about trying to fit in. Fitting in can have a negative effect- causing someone to lose what’s different about them.…

In this story many of the children on Venus are jealous of Margot’s opportunities and previous life on earth. When children are jealous, they turn against Margot. One example is when she is reading the poem, instead of listening to Margot the students shut her down without even listening. Just because students are jealous it does not mean that they can bully Margot. While this is important theme it is easily seen that if it weren’t for Margot not thinking about what she said or did that this wouldn’t have happened, so overall the important point is that it is needed for everyone to take a minute an think about the results in the end from what they…
