During the story A.S.I.A.D the author uses symbolism to show the children from the class on mars true emotion and feelings towards their situation. During the children's dreams they dream about experiencing the sun. They do this because the sun is extremely important to them. Other people who have read the book may think that this is not what the story's symbols are about. Some readers may think that all of these symbols mean something else. The children can sometimes be blinded by things in the story. Things like the rain and the sun can affect their actions without them even noticing. The story has many symbols throughout the writing.

One of the ways the children's feelings are shown is through their dreams. What that means is that the children seem to dream about what they desire. This can symbolise their desperation and desire to see the sun by showing that they will even attempt see it in a place beyond reality. Sadly this can also represent what is blocking them in the story. They try to see and feel what the sun is like in their dreams because in the real world it seems as if the rain will eternally stop them from seeing the sun. In the end their dreams are only met with sorrow when they wake up the next day and have to face reality.

For example, the sun can represent something besides desire. The sun can be a symbol of what is out of reach and what can’t be obtained. But the fact that they go out of their way just to mess with someone who has seen the sun can prove this theory wrong. The children are meen to Margot because she has seen the sun and that is what they desire most but can never do. Overall there is enough evidence to prove this statement

With them wishing for this all the time they don’t enjoy the life they still have and appreciate what they had before, for they see this little four year old girl with the same sight as them at their elder age. The second theme is seen with the little girl remaining happy all the time and even at the age of four, almost five she remains happy. "The gas wore off, she found the hole in her face / (you know, it never bled?), / stayed happy, even when I went to pieces." ("Through a Glass Eye, Lightly" 28-30). The first part is the Barn Owl, it displays the loss of innocence of the child because of killing the owl. In the first stanza, “let him dream of a child, obedient, angel - mind”, the use of religious imagery is applied here to emphasise the idea that she doesn’t want her father to know what she has become, but prefers her father to imagine his daughter as an innocent girl. Later in the fourth stanza, juxtaposition is used in “a lonely child who believed death clean and final…” to depict the child’s awareness of death and how it is not humane. “end what you have begun”, a short declarative line by the father shows how he is a character with wisdom.…

In literature, a literary device known as symbolism is used to convey an idea about a subject, person, or place. In the works of Amy Tan and Julia Alvarez, symbolism is influential throughout their stories. The story of ¡Yo! is a great example of how well Alvarez converts the symbol of a haunting folklore to a real-life terror. Although the story of ¡Yo! takes place in the United States, it tells the story of a family that escapes from The Dominican Republic during the time of a terrifying wave of dictatorship. In Two Kinds, as an adolescent, Ni kan doesn’t want to be the prodigy her mother wants.…
