“She refused to believe that the times were changing and refused to change into the new society.” (Symbolism in “A Rose for Emily”9). Her stubbornness was present in everyday of her life. Things were changing she didn’t want to move on. She was lady that thought that she was right and nobody else could tell her otherwise. Miss Emily’s lives through the past. They thought that they could get rid of the smell with lime. “The lime is a symbol of fruitless attempt to hide something embarrassing, and creepy.” (Symbolism in “A Rose for Emily”10). Even though they tried to get rid of the smell it was something that they couldn’t get rid of. The smell was something that can tell the secret inside the house. The lime didn’t work but they had to attempt something to help the townspeople to settle down about the smell. In the story there was a lot of death: the father, Homer Barron, and then Miss Emily. Every time I looked back into the story Miss Emily was surrounded by death. “In the short story, ‘A Rose for Emily’ the color black is symbolic for death, as well as depression gloom.” (symbolism in “A Rose for Emily”9). She could turn back from everything she has done and had to live with a dead corpse. Emily rather kill someone then to live with sadness for the rest of her life. Emily soul was black making her a cold hearted woman. Miss Emily life was full of sadness, with no love, and alone. All the things that made her do terrible things. Things that had no turning back and had to be hidden in the dark. She showed me that there are things people would do to keep their loves ones with them forever, and never letting go of the past.
