The symbol of “The plot of the text finally comes together as we realize that Miss Emily likely poisoned Homer and has since lain with the dead body as though every night was their wedding night” (Smith). The author is trying to tell the readers that homer went missing at some point but his body was found in the room where they had their wedding night in. Faulkner also points out that “The body had apparently once lain in the attitude of an embrace, but now the long sleep that outlasts love, that conquers even the grimace of love, had cuckloded him” (Faulkner). Once again, the body is used as a symbol of the love they had for each other that ended up in death.
