The symbolic essence of the Truman show is presented most evidently through the names of the people or the city. Take, for example, the Santa Maria, which was one of the boats used by Christopher Columbus in his adventure to discover new trade routes. This boat is symbolic of Truman’s urge to explore and have adventures. The name Truman Burbank is also symbolic, as his first name can be described as “True Man” and the other can symbolize that he lives in Burbank. Seahaven is also symbolic, as when it is split up. The “Sea” part is meaning that the place he lives at is an island, and the “Haven” part is meaning that the place he’s living at is a true heaven, one of the greatest places to live. The real world is one place of less deception and deceit than in the Seahaven reality, because there are real situations happening out there, and the situations that are happening in Seahaven are merely fiction. The situations are controlled. Seahaven, as a place “without deceit”, is not the way that human life is supposed to be handled. We all need a little bit of drama, we all need a little bit of lies spreading around and false issues going about. If none of this happens, then we are just average.
