Sylvester Herbert was a young boy who lived the town of Hamburg, Germany. He had one sister, Gretel, who had just graduated from high school, and is temporarily living with them. Sylvester’s mom tended the house while he was at school. His father was a German Gestapo. One day his father alerted the family that they were moving to Buchenwald, Germany. The entire family, including Sylvester’s father, was not happy about the sudden change. They were expected to move in three days. Sylvester was very upset because he was about to leave his best friends behind. As the family was driving to their new home, Sylvester noticed smoke coming from a factory.
Mother, why is there smoke coming from that building?”
“ There are chefs cooking breakfast for the workers, dear,” his mother responded.

There was a grand entry including a majestic staircase, hallways leading into many rooms, and a lot of windows leading into the backyard. The first thing that Sylvester did was run towards the backyard.
“ Make sure to be back at 5:30 for supper, love,” his mother called.
Sylvester starting running into the vast, open grassland. There were big trees, green grass and small pond with an abundance of small creatures. As Sylvester was walking he noticed an abandoned area with shacks. He did not see anybody so he decided to investigate. As Sylvester got closer, he noticed a fence surrounding the camp. The fence was about eight feet tall and it had barbed-wire around the entire fence. Sylvester looked at his wristwatch and saw that the time was 5:15.
When sylvester returned home, dinner was already made. It was his first meal in the new house. They had roast beef, potatoes, and vegetables. As Sylvester helped clean the dishes he thought about the shacks and the fence. He wondered if there were people living there or not. It took a lot of courage, but he decided sneak out during the night and check it
