It has been prescribed to us by many news organizations such as the BBC that they are fighting due to the Sykes- Picot agreement. However the area at which they fighting is due to a lot of oil rich area (AL-KHALIDI, 2014). Syria has lost $3.8billion on sales of oil because of ISIS control (AL-KHALIDI, 2014). The 2 million that ISIS makes daily because of the illegal oil sales have been able to provide them with salaries and money to keep them functional (AL-KHALIDI, 2014). "This is a lucrative trade for some businessmen who are mainly war profiteers who can also find buyers any time at the right price," he said. Overall if the ISIS advances on Erbil oil fields that are coincidently currently run by the Kurdish rebel groups ISIS would have complete control (AL-KHALIDI, 2014). Currently that seems to be there targeted area.
