“The best feeling in the world is loving someone. The worst feeling is not being loved back” (unknown). In the novel A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens, the character Sydney Carton strives to be honest about his love for Lucie Manette, but she doesn’t return his love. Sydney used to think that his life was wasted until he met Lucie. She was so attractive that Carton wanted her. He couldn’t own her, but he made a promise to do anything for her happiness. Sydney's love for Lucie is so powerful because he is willing to give up his time and his life for her. Carton asks Darnay if he can come and visit. Later Sydney saves the Manette’s from a trap set by Madame Defarge. And finally, he gives his life for Darnay. Love can inspire people to be better because of the person they love.
