The next strength was that there was a lot of passionate college students that wanted to get more involved with the city of Belleville. There was a lot of access to volunteers as well. Another strength was that it showed the students that the association is interested in having more campus wide activities. We also had a better turnout then we had originally thought we were going to have and when we able to get sponsors that wanted to help us out even though they weren’t sure what they were going to get out of the event. It’s crucial though, for the association, to learn from the mistakes that we had made. This SWOT analysis, along with the many others, highlighted exactly what we need to continue doing and what we need to do better. This event was a learning experience for everyone. As an event manager, we could have gotten more response out of the community in order to see what they would like to do as a relationship builder with the university. This is important because the community and campus relationship should be beneficial to both parties. The SWOT analysis shows that we had a great opportunity to make this event really special to the city of Belleville and it could have been accomplished by making the 5k unique to the town itself, incorporating both the community and college in one event. On the marketing and promotion side of the event making, we could have accomplished more than we did. The main thing we need to get done for the next event is to promote it on social media. Social media has been an enormous help to event and promotional managers the last couple of years and if we want our event to succeed, that will be the first task that needs to be done.
