a) Ms. K. feels that a person’s spirituality in addition to lifestyle determines their overall mental and physical health. She views herself as spiritually grounded which has helped her cope with her health challenges. She states, “without my strong spiritual foundation I don’t know where I would be”. I addition she incorporates “a healthy lifestyle”, by watching what she eats, exercising when she can and getting plenty of rest. With a history of aneurysms, myocardial infarction (MI) and hypertension she recognizes the importance healthy living and does her best to stay in shape. And feels if she continues to take her medication, follows up with her primary care doctor, eat right, and stay prayerful her health would be fine.
b) Ms. K. practices the Baptist faith, she attends services regularly and is very active in her church. As she previously stated her spiritually is what keeps her going. Her parents are devout Catholics and raised their children in that faith. She states that as an adult she was not agreement with some of the churches views on women’s health and marriage, she feels as though this is where her spirituality began.
