Introduction
Viettel is Vietnam’s largest mobile network operator. Viettel entered the Vietnamese telecommunication market in 2004 when the giants like Mobile phone, Vinaphone, S-Fone dominated the market and established its position in large cities. However, the company surprised everyone by its steering strategy of targeting the rural markets. In very short time, it surpassed its rivals and stood on the top of the list of mobile phone companies. In 2014, Viettel obtained revenue of USD 9.8 billion and a profit of USD 2 billion.
The introduction of Viettel led to the booming growth of mobile phone subscribers. Vietnamese people now can get the benefits of mobile phone cheap charges. Beyond the success in Vietnam, the company aims to make the telecom services become accessible and available to all social classes and all rural and remote areas over the world. To realize this ambitious plan, in 2006 the group decided to expand its footprint in Cambodia and Laos making a breakthrough to the world market.
