The mission of Tesla Motors is to accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy (Tesla Inc. 2016). Initially, Tesla’s mission statement focused on acceleration to ‘sustainable transport’ but the updated mission statement mission statement to ‘sustainable energy’ implies the shift in the organization’s business to a new direction, addressing renewable energy opportunities in the market (Hines 2016). Tesla’s mission statement can be broken down into three simple components: sustainable energy, acceleration and world’s transition. Tesla Inc.’s continuing success is primarily because it believes in culture as the greatest asset. Tesla’s organizational culture comprises of 6 features. These are ‘Move Fast’, ‘Do the impossible’, ‘Constantly Innovate’, ‘Reason from First Principles’, ‘Think like owners’ and ‘We are ALL IN’ (Evanson 2014). These characteristics enable innovation and responsiveness of the auto-business and market trends. Tesla’s organizational culture thrives on innovation and continuous innovation opportunities that stand out from other auto-companies and demonstrates the rapid problem-solving abilities of the employees. Tesla has constantly introduced unprecedented electric vehicles over the last few years as well as sustainable energy products like Powerwall, Solar Panel and Solar Roof. Tesla culture driven success was first proven by the success of Model S, which has been the awarded the best car in categories like safety, efficiency and performance. Model S also holds the record for fastest 0-60 mph acceleration time of 2.28 seconds (Tesla Inc. 2016). Similarly, Model X, which was launched in 2015, became the safest, fastest and most capable Sports Utility Vehicle produced in automobile production history (Tesla Inc. 2016). Tesla Motors also launched Model 3, an affordable electric sedan for the mass market, demonstrating innovation to expand its vehicle product line to address most of the consumer market (Roy 2016). Another demonstration of Tesla’s organizational values would be its transition from an electric automobile company to further integrating sustainable energy solutions in its product lines. These include solar panels, Powerwall and Powerpack, enabling mass market to access, generate and store renewable energy (Tesla Inc.
