Great topic and PICOT question! Nursing shortage is a problem that affects not only nurses, but patients too. It is hard to determine if lower nurse patient ratio does improve quality care, due to different factors, such as bias and the lack of objective data in the studies. However, we can underestimate the extension of the problem, because we can see that this relationship, low nurse to patient ratio and quality of care, does exist. The recommendation of the presentation were also great. I am sure that hospitals will start seeing a difference in patient care and errors whenever they decrease this nurse to patient ratio.
