Brief History
The first Nando’s store was in Rosettenville in Johannesburg in 1987 the founders of Nando’s are Fernando Duarte and Robbie Brozin who were both so impressed by “chicken land” and decided to buy the restaurant and named it after himself Fernando and his son Nando. They then came up with the order at the till, sit down and wait for your food philosophy.

National/Global footprint
There are more than 1000 Nando’s stores worldwide in 30 different countries; with the UK having the most restaurants, followed by Australia and then South Africa which has about 300 stores.

There are 17 managers on the main board and Nando’s has a tall categorized structure - the managers on top, the assistant managers and then below, the floor managers. Nando’s falls under role culture. Role culture states that each member of the organization has a clearly defined job title and role. At Nando’s each branch, every member is assigned for their respective jobs, fore example; the chef, the packaging employee, the cleaner and branch manager. Nando’s, being a dine-in restaurant, their culture is different and their morale within the staff is good . They offer bonuses and promotions for the staff as for the managers too, and the structure of the organization has an impact on the culture and even the performance of Nando’s.

Nando’s strengths; Outlets are available globally which shows they are developed and have stable finances, Nando’s is a healthier choice when compared to some of it’s competitors - its chicken is fresh and not frozen and it is also very lean.

Nando’s weaknesses; Nando’s has limited options on offer for vegetarians( they focus on chicken ) which reduces customer inflow, customers in South Africa cannot order online.

Strategies to combat these issues:
Level of rivalry in the market - Nando’s should have a competitive profile for their biggest competitors for example; kauai who only focuses on healthy food items and even keep an eye out for steers that have entered the chicken industry and introduced flame grilled chicken . To achieve an advantage, Nando’s should offer more promotions like - Steers wacky wednesday and loyalty programs like the kauai smoothie card.

The power of the suppliers - Nando’s should make sure their suppliers are paid promptly. Nando’s should communicate correctly with their suppliers - Nando’s needs to know what is expected of them and their supplier needs to know what is expected in return. Because Nando’s suppliers hold the power, they need to make sure they build and maintain a relationship with their suppliers because if something goes wrong it will be detrimental to Nando’s because they are so dependent on their
