According to Huber (2014) the final step in strategic management is to analyze the outcomes of a strategic planning and implementation of four areas: strengths, weakness, opportunities and threats (SWOT). Nursing Capstone is the final course in the RN-BSN program at Broward College, located in Davie, Florida which includes a practicum (Broward College, 2016). The rotation of this practicum is selected by the student, thus, gives an opportunity to put theory to practice (Iglesias-Parra, García-Guerrero, García-Mayor, Kaknani-Uttumchandani, León-Campos, et al., 2015). Coral Springs Medical Center where this writer conducted the SWOT analysis is located at 3000 Coral Hills Dr. Coral Springs, Florida 33065. Coral Springs Medical Center is a 200-bed community hospital providing comprehensive general medical and surgical services to Broward County since 1987 according to Broward Health (2016). Conversely, Broward Health states that CSMC is one of the five major hospitals in the Broward healthcare system providing expert care to the Broward County community offering more than 50 medical specialties including pediatrics emergency services, level 2 pediatric intensive care unit and pediatric inpatient services with multiple specialties (Broward Health, 2016). Furthermore, Broward Health states that CSMC is an innovator in adhering to the health and medical needs of the Broward County community (2016). The mission of CSMC is to provide quality healthcare to the community and support the needs of all physicians and employees. The preceptor assigned is Perla Bueno a clinical specialist of the pediatric unit. Perla Bueno RN, BSN, MSN has been a nurse for the past 24 years. The multidisciplinary team is inclusive of the physician, the nurses, specialists, therapists and the patient that is critical in the treatment of asthma. The patient is included because the philosophy of Coral Springs Medical Center is to provide patient centered care according to Bueno (personal communication, November 16, 2016), which is another strength of the institution and Mrs.Bueno. Moreover, Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (2012) states that when a patient is include in their care because his or her personal preferences, support system, and internal motivations it affects their overall well-being, which in turn decreases the length of stay at CSMC. The final strength of CSMC is the availability of a level 2 pediatric intensive care unit which allow for the possibly to be discharge from higher level of care to lower level of care (Perla Bueno, personal communication, November 16, 2016), to which Mrs. Bueno is at her strongest.
