Dollarama is a Canada only retail store corporation best known for having $1.00 items. With having over 900 stores, Dollarama is the leading dollar store in Canada. The head office of Dollarama is located in Montreal, Canada. The first Dollarama store opened in April, 1992, in Matane, Quebec (Dollarama Inc. 2015). In 1994, Dollarama opened their first store in Ontario. Dollarama became a public company on October 16th, 2009, trading its stocks on the TSX Stock Market (Dollarama Inc. 2015). With the celebration of opening their 700th store, in 2012, Dollarama expanded and started selling products for up to $3.00. (Dollarama Inc. 2015).

The liquidation of Target stores is having a negative impact on Dollarama. However, Rossy believes the talk of Walmart stores taking over will have a positive impact. This is because 380 stores have had this impact, with being located to near Walmart stores. (Canadian Press, 2015).

Dollarama which originated as being a “five and dime” store has evolved a lot of the past 23 years. It had only once sold things like trinkets, knickknacks and crafts. Over the years, multiple categories of products has been developed. The retail stores now sell more toys, beauty products, and dry good food products.
